Operation Updates

Closed for the season

3/27/26
Last day for cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and tubing is now Sunday, March 29th. In the meantime, we have about 5 kilometers of good skiing in Orvis Meadow and The Runway, including a few meandering paths alongside the airstrip. Reba’s Meadow Cafe is serving 11am-3pm, and Art is “pluck’n & pick’n” tunes on the cafe deck. We are also allowing folks to mountain bike on our groomed trails from 7:30-9am with a trail or season pass, while the snow is firm. Doesn’t sound like a shabby weekend to us!

Tonight’s grooming revealed that some of the trails are losing snow rapidly. Specifically, we did not groom past the Runway Bridge, which means that Biathlon and Stables Cruise will not be groomed tomorrow. We will conduct further trail assessments tomorrow to determine which trails will be open this weekend. Regardless, we will close trails and tubing starting next Monday, April 30th, and if we receive enough new snow next week, we will evaluate reopening for the weekend of April 4-5. Stay tuned.

3/25/26
As forecasted, temperatures got colder last night and today. The skiing remains surprisingly good, and skate skiers are enjoying smooth and fast conditions before 11am.

3/24/26
Today was a little warmer than we like, but the trail work and grooming from yesterday made all the difference. Tonight's snowcat driver will aim for the same, and temperatures will start cooling down tonight. Therefore, tomorrow should be another fine day in Bear Valley.

3/23/26
Another fine day of cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and tubing. We are moving the trailhead buildings out of the meadow, but that will not interfere with your snowy adventures. Note: Reba’s Meadow Cafe is serving a sheppards pie special while supplies last.

That’s a wrap on a great weekend of cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and tubing. After trail inspections this afternoon, conditions are looking good to stay open this week and next weekend. Of course, the meadow can always change its mind, but as it stands now, we think we have enough snow to provide high-quality experiences out on the snow. Cheers!

3/22/26
Sorry, we missed a daily update yesterday due to a busy Saturday and a staff party at the cafe yesterday afternoon. Our staff is truly amazing and works hard to deliver a quality and friendly experience for our guests. Yesterday once again delivered good skiing and tubing; today will be more of the same. Our plan is to stay open as long as possible, offering quality cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and tubing. The next couple of days look promising for staying open; afterwards, it will be a day-by-day call. Stay tuned.

3/20/26
It’s all about the 10km of meadow trails. The snowcat drivers continue to impress with fabulous skiing, especially the skate skiing between 9-10:30am. Tomorrow is forecast to be almost 10ºF cooler, which will only extend the prime skiing window. Looking forward to the weekend ahead.

Many folks are asking whether we will be open next week, and the answer is, “it looks good for another week of cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and tubing.” We will keep updating this webpage daily as this is a fluid situation.

3/19/26
The meadow trails and tubing hills continue to impress. We will likely give up on the Equipe and Aspen/Bjornloppet trails after today, but we will still groom and enjoy the meadow, with 10 kilometers of quality skiing. Some trail variations and extentions my come online as soon as tomorrow. Conditions looks good to stay open through the weekend, and likley into next week. At some point the meadow will tell us it’s time to close, but for now, all system are a go!

3/18/26
We had a good freeze last night, which helps a lot to preserve the trails. We are going to lightly groom tonight and keep the snowcats off the Equipe and Aspen/Bjornloppet trails. They will still be skiable, just a little less pristine than what skiers experienced today. As the weekend approaches, we will continue trailwork to bolster and buff out the existing trails. With decreasing temperatures, this weekend looks like a good one for cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and tubing.

3/17/26
This afternoon’s trail inspection proved more fruitful than expected, as the snow is still holding in many spaces. The Equipe trail will get another light grooming tonight, and the Bjornloppet downhills will be worked on in hopes of keeping them open for a few more days.

The groomers have returned from the afternoon and report that those who like the hills (e.g., Equipe) are best to be here tomorrow, possibly Wednesday, but the snow above the meadow is melting fast.

3/16/26
The skiing this morning was mighty fine. The hot ticket is the Equipe and Orvis Meadow Trail. A few more rocks surfaced on Equipe, and we plan to work on burying these tonight. The promising observation was that the rocks buried on Friday night are still well covered. This afternoon, snowcat drivers will be pushing copious amounts of snow into the trailhead to help us for the remainder of the week. Things look good for keeping open through this weekend, and hopefully longer.

3/15/26
While cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and tubing continue to exceed expectations, we see a heatwave headed our way. Therefore, we are adjusting our operations to provide the best conditions and preserve the snow.

Starting Monday, March 16th:

  • Store hours 7:30am - 5pm

  • Groomed trails 7:30am - 1pm

  • Reba’s Meadow Cafe 11am - 3pm

  • Tubing Hills 9am - 4pm

  • Midweek Group Ski Lessons 10:30am

Friday PM Update: Today was a great day of skiing, snowshoeing, and tubing. Tomorrow we are excited to bring the Bjornloppet, Quick Connect, and Osbourne Ridge trails back online, plus all the westside meadow trails. We are also opening the full Equipe, Headwaters, Indian Rock, and Granite Roller trails for the first time this season. Tomrrow should be a grand day.

2/20/26
Friday AM Update: We are reopening today with 100 inches of new snow over the past several days. Our eastside trails are groomed, including Hidden Meadow and Aspen Forest. Tubing hills will be open, and possibly the bigger sledding hills too. The snowcats will be active working on the eastside trails, and we anticipate many more trails added to the trail report for the weekend. It’s definitely a winter wonderland up here!

2/19/26
Thursday PM Update: Things look good for opening groomed trails and tubing tomorrow. It's been a wild storm cycle, and our staff has gone the extra mile, or two, or three. Our Trail Report shows what we hope to open tomorrow, but it’s a fluid situation, and we will keep this page and trail report updated as best we can. Cheers!

2/18/26
Wednesday PM Update: Today’s staff worked hard to clear and prepare for tomorrow's opening, but mechanical difficulties got the better of us, and we are forced to remain closed another day. The good news is that mechanics are on-site and have already trouble-shot a few of the issues. We feel good about reopening on Friday, February 20th. We appreciate your understanding.

2/18/26
Wednesday AM Update: Frankly, “we got pounded yesterday,” and it was a good thing our trails were closed. The snowcat drivers were active, but visibility was limited, and the snow was DEEP. We are closed again today, and staff will be working hard to mitigate snow at the store, shop, parking lot, trailhead, and cafe. Snowcat drivers will get back out there to find the trails and pack them down. While we plan to reopen tomorrow, we may need an additional day. Plus, another round of heavy snow is forecast for tomorrow. Stay tuned.

2/17/26
Tuesday AM Update: The big storm is underway. Our trails and tubing hills will be closed today and tomorrow due to heavy snow (Tue) and snow removal (Wed). This is exciting news as we plan to reopen on Thursday, with significant new snow. Cheers!

2/16/26
Big Presidents Holiday Weekend at BVAC, and even bigger amounts of snow headed our way this week = WAHOO! Today (Monday), operations are proceeding as usual, with cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and tubing. But on Tuesday & Wednesday this week, we will close the trail system and tubing hills due to strong winter storms. During this closure, snowcats will be preparing trails for reopening on Thursday (2/19/26). It’s important to stay out of the meadow during this time, as the snowcat driver's visibility can be limited by blowing snow.

Other BVAC Happenings:

  • Huge XC Ski Sale with 20% off all cross country ski and snowshoe items, plus 40%-60% off selected skis and boots.

  • Cross country ski and snowshoe rentals are available, even during our closure, for adventures in the subdivision or Sno-Parks.

  • The start of this Thursday's Skate & Classic Ski Clinic Series has been postponed until next week (weather permitting).

  • A few spaces are still available in this Saturday’s Women's Skate Skiing Clinic on 2/21/26.

  • Earlybird pricing ends this week for the 53rd Annual Bjornloppet Race Weekend on March 7 & 8.

While we are all excited about the fresh snow in the forecast, it’s important to be aware of the potential for deep snow hazards. Below is a video with some helpful safety reminders:
