Cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and general snow play activities are also available at the Lake Alpine, Spicer, and Round Valley (closed to motorized sports) SNO-PARK areas.  All SNO-PARK areas require either a day ($15) or season ($40) permit, which is available to purchase at the Bear Valley Adventure Company.

Please know that a SNO-PARK is a place to park your car with nearby snow opportunities. A toilet will be located near the parking area. There is no food service, tables, or benches in the true sense of a park.

You can rent cross country skis or snowshoes from us, or bring your own (we do not rent sleds or tubes outside of our private, groomed sledding & tubing areas).

Lake Alpine

Lake Alpine is often crowded with multiple user groups (lots of snowmobiles) on weekends and located at the winter closure gate at Lake Alpine. Highway 4 is normally groomed one time per week beyond the gate closure and up to Ebbetts Pass.

spicer reservoir

Less crowded than Lake Alpine, Spicer Reservoir is located 5 miles west of Bear Valley on Highway 4 and the Spicer Road. Spicer Reservoir is occasionally groomed beyond the road closure as snow conditions allow.

PERMITS

Stop by Bear Valley Cross Country to pick up a California SNO-PARK permit and get more information on current conditions. A permit is required for each vehicle parked at a SNO-PARK area from November 1 through May 30 of each year. Single Day Permits and Season Permits are available.
