Winter is right around the corner! While that statement is a little exaggerated, it's not far from the truth. As I sit down to write this article, the West is experiencing a heatwave, and the Bear Valley Music Festival enters its final weekend. This likely marks the end of "peak" summer business. Afterward, the village will gradually slow down until the kids go back to school. Then it will slow down even further after the Labor Day Weekend.
This dichotomy is not new and is both a blessing and a curse of a seasonal tourism-based economy. The so-called "shoulder seasons" are important times to recharge and prepare for the next busy period. But this lull in the action shouldn't be prolonged, as the business and personal bills keep coming in.
Fortunately, the Fall season in Bear Valley is one of the best times to visit the High Sierra. The lakes are warm, campgrounds less crowded, mosquitoes nearly non-existent, and the trails are clear and ready for hikers and mountain bikers. We hope that many patrons will take advantage of these cherished conditions and enjoy all that Bear Valley has to offer during this coming "shoulder season".
