January 2024 Happenings

Patience has been the key to welcoming winter this season. Without snowmaking, the Bear Valley Adventure Company (BVAC) manages low snow conditions the old-fashioned way by shoveling and transporting snow onto the trails. Fortunately, shortened trail hours and December's low sun angle helped BVAC preserve a shallow snowpack and offer cross country skiing on 2 kilometers during the holidays. Then, a real winter storm finally arrived on January 2nd, and bingo, we fired up the snowcats and groomed 10+ kilometers of trails. Now that we have some snow to work with, BVAC will continue grooming and opening more trails.

In other BVAC news, the popular XC Ski Clinics with Judy for both stride and skate skiers will resume on Thursdays and Sundays starting January 18 and 21, respectively. These clinics teach to the day's conditions and give personal feedback to help participants glide with a smile. Also, from our ski school, and new this winter, participants in our Introduction to Cross Country Skiing Package can take a second group lesson that day for only $20.

It doesn't matter if you are new or experienced to cross country skiing and snowshoeing, winter has finally arrived and it's a special Bear Valley opportunity to enjoy one of the best groomed trail systems in the nation.  Ski you out there!
