The 2024/2025 winter season kicked off on Thanksgiving Day with near-perfect cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and tubing conditions. A healthy dose of "Sierra Cement" sloshed into the meadow shortly before the weekend, providing an excellent substrate to start building trails. Then temperatures dropped significantly under clear skies and dried out the snow surface right before guests arrived. A snow metamorphosis transitions the dense, wet snow surface into a cold, squeaky top layer, ideal for skiing. Throughout the weekend, the word "perfect" was echoed many times.
Now that the holiday has passed, so have the mid-winter conditions. Temperatures are rising, and the storm tracked has moved to the north. This occurrence is common in California, and Bear Valley winter enthusiasts must learn to ride the wave and not take it personally. While we wait for the next round of winter weather, we hope many of you took advantage of one of the best opening weekends in recent memory. Thank you!
