February 2020 Happenings

This winter's snowpack is proving robust and resilient.  Despite January's less than usual snowfall, our winter landscape got recharged right before Martin Luther King Weekend, and the Bear Valley Adventure Company was ready to welcome the crowds.  Holiday periods are essential to Bear Valley's economy, and we hope you either spent quality time on the snow or pursued some extra work to fund your next adventure. Cheers to winter!

Bear Valley just experienced spring conditions in late January and then a sudden return to winter in early February. Given the low angle of the sun this time of year, the snow conditions have remained remarkably good for cross country skiing and snowshoeing.  The weather forecast suggests a return of fresh snow in mid-February, so with a little good fortune, by the time this Cub Reporter is published, we will be amid another winter recharge (fingers-crossed … knock-on-wood ;-).

The new XC Masters Clinics on Thursdays with Judy Bettencourt are popular. The first four sessions covered striding (aka classic) techniques of balance, uphill, downhill, and putting it all together with a smile. The last 4 clinics (starting Feb. 13th) will focus on skate skiing techniques. These gatherings are a great chance to boost your skills, meet new folks, and venture to some of the best groomed nordic trails in California. For more clinic information, visit our store or website (www.bvadventures.com).  Drop-ins welcome.

Interested in new, or lightly used, cross country ski equipment? Now is the time to visit Bear Valley Adventure Company as last season's skis are marked down 30%! Then starting in April, our rental skis and boots will go on sale at even more significant discounts.  We think all snow sports enthusiasts should have a pair of cross-country skis in their quiver to ensure a "never bad day on skis" experience in Bear Valley.  Still unsure? Check out our "Try It & Like It," days for a discounted "Intro to XC Skiing Package" on the fourth Sunday of February and March. We think you'll love it!

Adventure Tip: Cross country skiing and snowshoeing are warm winter sports. Once clipped into the bindings, and heading down the trail, your body produces heat. A frequent adjustment for seasoned downhill skiers and snowboarders is realizing how little and simple their clothing needs to be during cross country skiing and snowshoeing.  Once again, less is more, and we look forward to seeing you smiling on the Bear Valley Adventure Company trail system this winter.

Save the dates: Tom’s Race (April 4), Easter Egg Hunt (April 12), Tour de Bear Valley (April 19), Passholder Lunch (April 19)
