After a brief encounter of wintery weather in early September, Bear Valley has returned to warm and calm fall weather. These late summer conditions, commonly called "Indian Summer," are one of the finest seasons in the High Sierra. The days are comfortably warm, and the nights are cool enough to warrant an extra blanket for snuggling. Hiking and biking trails are void of summer visitors, and the lakes are still warm enough for a refreshing plunge.
Bear Valley feels extra busy this fall with construction crews building new homes and continued repairs from the historical snowfall two years ago. Looking ahead at long-term weather forecasts, La Nina conditions appear to be a significant influencer with cooler than average sea surface temperatures at the equator. What does all this mean? Nobody knows, but some experts predict a slightly warmer and drier winter, while others call for average snowfall and temperatures. Both scenarios are good for Bear Valley as average winters often deliver the right balance of receiving snow when we need it and enjoying many sunny days in between.
The Bear Valley Adventure Company is fully prepared for whatever winter brings. Our snowcats and snowmobiles are serviced, trails are being cleared for cross country skiing, and additional staff are being hired to ensure our guests have a memorable experience. Before we know it, our small alpine village will be transformed into a winter wonderland. Cheers to the season ahead!
