While writing this article just before Labor Day Weekend, the Bear Valley Adventure Company (BVAC) braces for a major heatwave. Interestingly many tasks resemble winter storm preparations. For example, topping off gas cans, restocking supplies such as water and bagged ice, making change for the registers, and ensuring ice cream supplies are topped off. And by the time you read this, the heat wave will have passed, just like a winter storm.
Speaking of winter, BVAC is prepping for the upcoming cross country ski, snowshoe, and sledding season. Jackson Schoettgen is servicing our three snowcats, and we are fortunate to have Jackson and his skillset in our community. Trails are being surveyed for grooming, and we look forward to hosting two Winter Trail Work days on September 24th and October 8th. These gatherings are enjoyable and productive and serve as an eye-opener for the uninitiated guests as to the rough terrain our trails navigate. It's the wild, wild west out there, yeehaw!
But summer is still here, and don't forget that the time between Labor Day and the first winter storms can be one of the best times to visit Bear Valley. Trails are open, lakes are swimmable, and mosquitos are scarce. So what are you waiting for? Now is a prime time to visit our alpine hamlet, especially before transitioning to a winter wonderland.
