Bear Valley summer is marching forward with plenty of sunshine and comfortable temperatures. We opened the store today, Saturday, May 23rd. It feels a little weird as the state is still under "Shelter In Place", but also the right thing to do for those in the area. Essential items such as gas, food, and supplies are available daily from 9am - 5pm, and our "Bear B-Que" is serving from 11am - 3pm on the weekends.
Looking back, winter started with a bang and a last-minute storm that enabled opening for Thanksgiving. It was cold and stormy for much of December, and the holiday season offered great snow for skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, and tubing. It was heartwarming to see so many people enjoying Bear Valley.
Thanks to Leap Year, an inch of new snow arrived on the evening of February 29, and we did not have a snow-less month; but it was close. The snowpack has proved durable and resilient this season, and the Bear Valley Adventure Company has kept 30+ kilometers of trails open thanks to the hard work of the outside operations crew.
This winter's snowpack is proving robust and resilient. Despite January's less than usual snowfall, our winter landscape got recharged right before Martin Luther King Weekend, and the Bear Valley Adventure Company was ready to welcome the crowds. These are exciting times at the Bear Valley Adventure Company! Looking back at October, we teamed up with the Bear Valley Trail Stewardship to host the Fat Tire Festival. Nearly 50 enthusiastic riders gathered to learn, share, and celebrate the thrills of mountain biking in Bear Valley.
It's been a chilly week in Bear Valley, and if you know where to look, there is still a dusting of snow to be found around town. This shouldn't last long as the weather is forecasted to return to above normal temperatures by the weekend. This is good news as the Bear Valley Fat Tire Festival is happening this Saturday, October 5th. This one-day event is action-packed with guided rides, meals, shuttles, prizes, and shenanigans. So if you like to ride a bike, this is your opportunity to meet other pedaling enthusiasts and enjoy the trails in Bear Valley, especially as the Bear Valley Trail Stewardship has been busy this summer cleaning the paths and resurrecting some new ones.
