The proverb "April showers bring May flowers" rarely applies to Bear Valley at 7100 feet; however, this year may be the exception.

Our last day of groomed cross country and snowshoe trails rapidly approached on April 3rd, 2022. Looking back at the winter season, October brought a couple of teaser snowstorms before returning to Indian Summer for November and early December.

The cycle of seasons is constant, and the month of March this year arrives with snow on the ground, plenty of sunshine, and all the ingredients of a classic Sierra Nevada spring ski and snowshoe season.

The bountiful snowfall of December set up January to be a spectacular winter sports month, and indeed January delivered! Winter operations are rolling at 100%, then a little extra during peak business periods.

Winter arrived with a bang, and right in the middle of Christmas! While the first half of the holiday season was spent mitigating snow, the sun finally came out, and skiers, snowshoers, sledders, and tubers arrived in force.
